The district's reopening plans have not changed. We are enacting the ability to move from virtual to in-person according to the submitted plan to the state in August 2020. Starting April 26th, PreK and Grades 3-5 are pivoting from virtual to in-person on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Wednesday will remain virtual to the end of the year. Grades K, 1, and 2 will remain in the same 4 day in-person model. Grades 6 - 12 remain in the current hybrid model until the end of the year.
October 6th, 2020 - Symptomatic & Absent Students
Per NYS Department of Health guidelines on 10/2/2020 the school no longer has standing orders for Covid testing at Jones Memorial.

Temperature equal or greater then 100 F.
Feels feverish or has chills
Cough
Loss of taste or smell

Your child should not come to school. Please notify the school nurse and call your health care (HCP) provider for further recommendations and evaluation.
In order to return to school, your HCP will need to provide documentation of an alternate medical diagnosis or a negative Covid test.
Please speak with your school nurse with any questions. We are happy to help!
September 22 & 25 - Symptomatic & Absent Students
This update is the update that stands as the districts process. Please have a conversation with our nurses to guide you through this process. They are here to protect all students and staff and keep us open for the benefit of students.
Dear Parents, Students and Community Members,
Today the superintendents and school nurses met with the Allegany and Cattaraugus Health Department to go over a myriad of questions and scenarios districts and both Health Departments have encountered since the start of school.
In the chart provided by the county today, the district does have some leeway to deviate from the requirement of having a COVID Negative Test result only if the district is aware of and familiar with existing documented conditions that have the "*" next to the symptom. The district could simply recommend they see their primary doctor as a follow up.
There are some symptoms listed in the chart that don't give the district the leeway to determine if they were preexisting or not. For example, a fever or sore throat would require a COVID Negative Test Result.
We do have some flexibility but want to remind our community, our goal is to remain open for the benefit of our children.
There is potentially additional guidance coming out this Thursday on the subject, we will remain nimble and follow our Health Department's recommendation.
September 21 - Symptomatic & Absent Students
The New York State Health Department has issued new guidance. All students and staff displaying COVID-19 symptoms whether they be in school or at home must perform a COVID-19 Negative Test before being allowed to return to school.
Covid 19 Symptomatic Students and Staff
Although this requirement is inconvenient, Cuba-Rushford will be following and enforcing the policy to ensure the safety of our students and staff with accurate reliable data results.
If a student or staff do not report to school, our nurses will be following up with a call to ensure our students or staff are okay. They will follow up with specific questions regarding your symptoms. I ask please you cooperate with them.
Currently, test results are coming back within 24 - 48 hours through Jones Memorial.
Thank you very much for your help and cooperation.

September 1- Reopening Update for Cafeteria
Dear Cuba-Rushford Families,
It is with great joy that we announce that the district has been approved for another 4 years for FREE Breakfast and Lunch through our CEP Grant.
However, there has been a change in guidance from the State of New York and the district at this time can only offer on-site pickup, meaning distribution can only take place from CRCS property. See below.
All food pick-up stations must be ON-SITE. This means we can no longer use the Rushford Fire Hall as a food pick-up station. Food pick-up will continue Monday – Friday at Cuba-Rushford Elementary from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM.
We encourage families to still fill in the form provided in the September, 2020 Newsletter should the availability be extended to the district.

Reopening Summary 8/4/2020
CUBA-RUSHFORD CENTRAL SCHOOL REOPENING PLAN
Your child’s safety and well-being are our top priorities. Our re-opening plan promises a quality education for every student while adhering to NYS COVID-19 health and safety guidelines. Consideration of physical safety, social emotional well-being, mental health, and importance of academic engagement for our students, staff, and families was the driving force of this plan. This plan was created as a team effort consisting of parents, school employees, administration, and community members.
Cuba-Rushford Central School is committed to delivering our educational program guided by our mission, vision, and values: preparing students to be lifelong learners who are independent, involved, and conscientious citizens in a global community; becoming a regional model of excellence; and providing a safe and caring learning environment with an unwavering focus on learning, collaboration, leadership, and pride.
FAQ
-
As we prepare for the 2020-21 school year, we will be moving forward with a blended learning model:Students in grades K-2, special education students, ELL students, and students with social emotional or mental health concerns will attend school in person four days each week. All other students (grades 3-12) will be assigned to color designated teams to attend school in person two days per week and online three days per week.In partnership with community agencies, upper classmen may attend (in-person or virtually) to attain their credits required for graduation and will supplement their learning experience with community-based internships. All instruction is standards based, with an emphasis on social emotional learning at every grade level. Cross curricular project-based learning and assessment will be emphasized. Each student will be assigned a Cuba-Rushford Ally (CRA) with whom they will connect at least twice weekly.Extra-curricular activities will continue in a solely virtual model and phase into an in-person model when possible. All designated teams will be honored in extra-curricular grouping.
-
This decision (blended-learning model) was made to best support the needs of students and families while following all social-distancing, health and safety, and cleaning guidelines.Based on educational research, developmental needs of students, and recommendations from the New York State Education Department, we are maximizing in person instruction for our youngest learners (Pre-K -2), special education students, and English language learners. Students in this model will be split into teams designated by color, with approximately half the grade level attending on specific days. These groupings will be driven by household and transportation needs and will be communicated to families by mid-August.Once teams are assigned, students will not be able to change.
-
As we prepare to reopen, and regardless of the learning scenario, we will be guided by the following school values:Providing a Safe and Caring Learning EnvironmentThe health, safety, and well-being of everyone in our school community will continue to be our top priority as we bring students back to school. We will be wearing masks, practicing social distancing and implementing other protocols to promote health and safety in our classrooms, hallways, buses, and facilities. We will also continue to center our efforts on supporting the social and emotional well-being of our students.Unwavering Focus on LearningDespite the complexity of our current circumstances, the schedules that we have developed for our students are all centered on and designed to provide a focus on learning for our students. We will continue to deliver our curriculum and plan creatively to ensure that we are preparing students to be lifelong learners who are independent, involved, and conscientious citizens in a global community.Collaboration, Leadership, and PrideAs a school district, we pride ourselves in our determination to be a regional model of excellence. Our commitment to that vision remains steadfast during this difficult time. Now, more than ever, it is crucial that we collaborate with families and community members to create an epic experience for our students. As the saying goes, “It takes a village!”As we head into this unprecedented school year, we must continue to be supportive and cooperative in order to create a safe and caring learning environment that is not only effective and engaging, but is also flexible enough to adjust as conditions change in our area. We will continue to actively monitor local, state, and national health agencies and will use the Center for Disease Control guidelines as we prepare to safely reopen school. As evidenced throughout this difficult situation, the fluidity of the pandemic will require all of us to remain patient, understanding, and flexible. Take comfort in knowing that our amazing school community will get through this together.
